Coverplay is made by Michael Verdi. This page explains what the app handles and what it does not.
The short version: Coverplay has no accounts, no sign-in, no analytics, no advertising, and no tracking of any kind. It never asks for your name, your email address, or your location.
A photograph of the album cover. When you scan a record, Coverplay crops the picture to the cover and sends that cropped image to our identification service, which passes it to Anthropic's Claude API to work out which album it is. The image is used to answer that one question and is not stored by us. Anthropic handles it under their own API terms as our processor.
Coverplay only sends a picture when you press the shutter. It does not stream the camera anywhere, and it does not send anything from your photo library.
An anonymous device identifier. Coverplay creates a random identifier the first time it runs and keeps it in the iOS Keychain. Our service uses it to count how many credits your copy of the app has left. It is a random number. It is not linked to you, your Apple Account, or any other app, and we cannot use it to work out who you are.
A device check from Apple. Coverplay uses Apple's App Attest so our service can tell a real copy of the app from a forgery. Apple runs this check. See Apple's privacy policy for how Apple handles it.
Our service keeps short operational records of these requests — a timestamp, the anonymous identifier, and whether a scan succeeded — so the credit count is correct and so faults can be found. There is no name or contact detail in them.
Coverplay uses Apple's MusicKit to play what it identifies. Playback happens through Apple, under Apple's terms and Apple's privacy policy. Coverplay does not receive your listening history, your library, or your Apple Account details.
Credit packs are sold by Apple through the App Store. Apple handles the payment. Coverplay never sees your card, your billing address, or your Apple Account. Apple sends us a signed receipt that says a purchase happened, and we add the credits. See Apple's privacy policy for what Apple collects.
Refunds are decided by Apple, not by us. When you request one, Apple asks us how much of the credit pack you had used. We answer with two things: how many of those credits were still unspent, and whether the credits were delivered to you correctly. That is all — it is a count, not a list. We do not send Apple the records you scanned, and we could not: we never store them.
By using Coverplay you agree that we may send Apple that count when you request a refund. If you would rather we did not, do not request a refund through Apple; write to us instead and we will sort it out directly.
Coverplay is not directed at children and collects nothing that would identify anyone, of any age.
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it.
