Coverplay Support

Coverplay is made by Michael Verdi. If something is wrong, or you just want to ask, write to support@michaelverdi.com. It is one person answering, so a reply may take a couple of days, but every message is read.

When you write about a scan that went wrong, it helps enormously to say which record it was and what the app played instead. A photograph of the sleeve you scanned is better still.

Common questions

It played the wrong album

This happens, and it is the hardest part of the app. Identifying a record from a photograph is a judgment, not a lookup. Covers with no text on them are the hard case — the app is working from the artwork alone.

Two things help:

The record could not be found at all

Some records are genuinely not on Apple Music, and some are there but cannot be played. Coverplay will say so rather than play something else. If you think the record really is available, send the artist and title and it can be looked at.

The camera is black on my iPad

If Coverplay is sharing the screen with another app in Split View or Slide Over, iPadOS may take the camera away. Some iPads cannot share a camera at all. Make Coverplay full screen and the camera comes back.

How do credits work

Every new install gets a number of free credits. A credit is spent when Coverplay has to look a cover up — scanning a record it already knows costs nothing at all, so re-scanning your own collection is free.

Credits are not spent when the app cannot help you: if it asks you to cover a shop's price sticker and scan again, or asks for the barcode or label, or you delete a wrong match, the credit comes back.

If you run out, you can buy more from the Credits tab.

My credits are different on my other device

Credits follow your iCloud account, not the device. Both devices need to be signed into the same iCloud account with iCloud switched on for Coverplay. A device joining for the first time can take up to about fifteen seconds to catch up, and the other device shows the new number after you leave the app and come back.

If they still disagree, write in.

I want a refund

Purchases go through Apple, so refunds do too. Use reportaproblem.apple.com. Apple decides the outcome; we are told about it afterwards and the credits are removed. If a purchase took your money and no credits arrived, write in — that one we can fix.

Do I need Apple Music

To play a full album, yes — a current Apple Music subscription. Without one, Coverplay plays a 30-second preview of the record instead, so the app still works, it just cannot play the whole thing.

What does Coverplay collect about me

Nothing that identifies you. No accounts, no sign-in, no analytics, no advertising, no tracking. The full detail is in the Privacy Policy.

Still stuck

support@michaelverdi.com — say what you were doing, what you expected, and what happened instead. If the app showed a message, quoting it exactly is the most useful thing you can send.
